Abstract
868,233. Outboard motor drives. WAYHOPE, J. G. A. Jan. 28, 1960 [March 5, 1959], No. 7752/59. Class 114. In an outboard motor comprising a drive shaft 18 having a pinion 17 meshing with a crown wheel 19 on the propeller shaft 15 supported in bearings 16 and 14 carried by a housing 12, at least one web projects from the inner surface of the housing and is disposed above the level of the propeller shaft and near to the pinion or the crown wheel and extends close to one of said bearings whereby to lead oil, which is carried upwards by the crown wheel from a sump 11 formed within the housing, on to said bearing. Oil in the sump is carried up by the crown wheel 19, transferred to pinion 17, thrown by centrifugal force on to two webs embracing webs 22 from whence it drips on to the bearing 16. Oil carried up by the face 25 of the crown wheel is contacted by the edge 24 of a web 23 and thereby transfered to said web, from whence it drips on to the bearing 14.
