Abstract

867,514. Vehicle spring suspensions. ARMSTRONG PATENTS CO. Ltd. May 16, 1958 [May 30, 1957], No. 17121/57. Class 108(2). Riding movement of a vehicle axle 11 is damped by a shock absorber 24 (Fig. 1) the cylinder 3 (Fig. 2) of which is connected to an hydraulic chassis height correcting ram 17 through a pipe 25 and a valve 26 (Fig. 3 not shown) which is opened and closed by a cam surface 6 rotatable with shaft 23 on relative movement between the axle and chassis due to changes in vehicle loading. In a modification (Fig. 5) a coil spring 35 is acted on by a ram 33 fed from a shock absorber 30 in response to movement of the upper wish bone 28. In a further modification (Fig. 6 not shown) the ram locates the free end of a torsion bar spring connected to a lower wishbone, whilst an upper wishbone is operatively connected to the shock absorber.
