Abstract
<PICT:0853807/IV(a)/1> In the spinning of viscose, filament tows issuing from a plurality of spinnerets in a precipitation bath are united while travelling upwards and thereafter, while between two pairs of stretching rollers mounted vertically one above the other, are sprayed from both sides with decomposition bath liquid so that the liquid runs downwardly in countercurrent to the filaments and can be discharged at the commencement of the stretching zone. Preferably, the filaments are united in a flat web. As shown, wide jet nozzles 1 provide flat filament webs 2 which pass upwardly through the precipitation bath (not shown), through a stripper 3 which removes excess liquid, and around stretching rollers 4 and 7, the combined filament web being guided vertically upwards by the deflecting roller 5. Nozzles 8 spray the web with decomposition bath liquid which runs downwardly and is collected in channel 10 and discharged through pipe 11. Stripper 9 prevents the bath liquid from being entrained upwardly.
