Abstract

853,562. Moulding battery separators. ACCUMULATOREN-FABRIK A.G. June 25, 1958 [June 29, 1957], No. 20321/58. Class 87(2). A layer of very fine powder, e.g. for sintering to produce porous battery separator plates, is supplied onto a moving supporting surface and evenly distributed thereon by a polished roller having a peripheral speed less-than the speed of said surface. Fine powder is supplied from a system of hoppers 1, 5 onto a supporting surface 3 moving as shown; the lower edge 7 of hopper 5 acting as a baffle wall. A vertically adjustable polished roller 10 is disposed at a minimum distance d above surface 3 beyond a space 9 in which powder accumulates and is rotated so that the peripheral velocity at the lowest point of the roller is in the same direction as but at least 3% less in magnitude than the linear velocity of surface 3. The difference in velocities may be adjusted. In the embodiment of Fig. 2 (not shown), the surface 3 which may be of paper is supported on a counter roller.
