Abstract

<PICT:0853157/IV (c)/1> Apparatus for regulating tension in a web of material e.g. textile material wherein the web is alternately and successively passed under and over upper and lower rollers over which it is drawn by traction rollers, comprises an upwardly movable cross-member on which the lower rollers are mounted and which has a connection to one arm of a double-armed pivoted lever, the other arm of which carries a counterbalance weight adapted to provide compensation for part or all of the tensioning load of the lower rollers and their supporting cross-member on the web. As shown traction rollers 1, 9 may be disposed at either end of a tank 11 for feeding web 12 into and out of for example a treatment liquid. The web passes in a sinuous path over and under rollers 2, 21, the latter being mounted on cross-member 3. Cross-member 3 is movable upwards and parallel with itself on links 4 pivotable about points 5. Rod 13 may connect cross-member 3 to one arm of two-armed lever 14 rockable about point 15, counterweights being attached to its other arm. In addition two-armed lever 14 may be connected by chain drive to a regulator 8 which simultaneously controls the speed of rollers 9. If desired a stretcher 10 may be incorporated in the apparatus. The rollers 2, 21 may have cross-section other than circular.
