Abstract
859,477. Centrifugal blowers. SULZER FRERES S.A. Feb. 10, 1958 [Feb. 16, 1957], No. 4331/58. Class 110 (1). The impeller wheel of a radial-flow blower has hollow blades through which a coolant flows in the direction of the wheel periphery, and the blade cavities communicate at their outer ends with a return chamber in the impeller wheel for returning the coolant towards the hub. In the blower impeller shown in Fig. 1, cooling air enters the impeller hub through ports 17 and passes, by way of ports 10, to the hollow interiors 9 of the impeller blades 8. As shown in developed circumferential section in Fig. 2, the impeller comprises a hollow disc 5 shaped to form the blades 8. At the periphery, the cooling air passes around a partition 4 and returns by way of a chamber 7 to an annular chamber 11 in the hub, from which it may be expelled by an auxiliary impeller 12. A chamber 6 may be provided in the disc 5 to supplement the outward flow through the blades 8.
