858,857. Tension apparatus. BOLTON, K. G. Jan. 20, 1958 [Jan. 18, 1957], No. 1872/57. Class 81 (2) [Also in Group XV] Orthopaedic tension apparatus comprises a gantry of adjustable height, an arm 17 extending laterally from the gantry and supporting a bar 18 at or near its outer end, the bar having hand grips 18a and means 19 for attaching a patientsuspending harness. The gantry comprises a tube 15 which is telescopically mounted on an upright 13 extending from a base 10. The arm 17 carried by the tube 15 is adjusted in height as the tube is moved relative to the upright, by a hydraulic pump 14a, or hand operated winch or gear means (not shown). The bar 18 which is suspended from the arm 17 carries hooks 19 for securing a harness. The patient stands,on a selectively rotatable turntable 12 mounted on the base 10 and is supported by the harness which is fitted to his body so that traction may be applied where desired as the arm 17 is raised.
