Abstract

857,420. Universal joints. LAYCOCK ENGINEERING Ltd. Aug. 19, 1958 [Sept. 4, 1957], No. 27883/57. Class 80 (2). A universal joint 3 is connected to. a driven member 5 by a flexible coupling consisting of a rubber or like annulus 10 secured between the side walls of coaxial cup-shaped members 8, 9 with their end walls adjacent, the inner member 9 having a width sufficient to enclose the joint 3 and to which its end wall is secured, the end wall of the outer member 8 being secured to the driven member 5. The annular member 10 may be in the form of a sleeve compressed radially between the cups 8, 9 and may be bonded to one or both of them, or it may be injection moulded between them. In one such arrangement, Fig. 4 (not shown), the member 10 is bonded to a thin sleeve having an interference fit with the outer cup 8.
