Abstract
The invention comprises dyes, free from SO3H and COOH groups, of formula: <FORM:0856898/IV (c)/1> where X is H, alkyl, CN, CF3, phenyl or substituted phenyl, R is epoxyalkyl and R1 is H or a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl or alkylene group having not more than 4- carbon atoms or an epoxyalkylgroup and the benzene nucleus may contain further substituents. The dyes are made by diazotising appropriate 5- nitro -2-aminothioazoles and coupling with the required aniline component. Specified groups for X are methyl, ethyl, nbutyl and mnitro- and #s-chlorophenyl. Specified for R1 are methyl, ethyl, npropyl, alkyl, nbutyl which may contain hydroxy or alkoxy groups or chlorine or bromine atoms and 2, 3- epoxypropyl is given as an epoxyalkyl group for R and R1. Indicated substituents for the benzene ring are alkyl, alkoxy, acylamido, trifluoromethyl and halogen groups. The dyes colour animal fibres e.g. wool, silk and regenerated protein fibres and artificial fibres such as cellulose esters, polyamide, polyurethane, polyester and polyacrylonitrile fibres. Dyeing is effected from aqueous dispersion. Violet to greenish-blue shades are obtained. The above fibres may also be printed using conventional techniques. Examples are provided of the preparation of the dyes and their use in colouring processes. Specification 856,899 is referred to.
