Abstract

854,018. Winding layouts for dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. Sept. 18, 1957 [Sept. 20, 1956], No. 28846/56. Class 35. In a change-pole machine having two-layer windings, the winding of one pole-number is disposed within the layers of another. As shown for a two-speed induction motor stator, the conductors of the winding 15 of one polenumber lie above the conductors of the winding 16 of the other pole-number 16 where this is at the bottom of a slot at 13, and below them where they occupy the top of a slot at 14. The two windings are separated by an insulating layer 17 and wrapped up to form single doublelayer coils. The two coils thus have the same mechanical pitch and therefore different electrical pitches. The connections may be brought out at the same end of the machine as shown, or the connections of the two windings may be brought out at different ends of the machine. If desired the coils of the two windings may have different spans necessitating mechanical separation of the coils. In this case, the ends may be wrapped together after insertion in the slots. Three coils may be used. The composite coils may be braced by an insulated support-ring 19 and varnished cord 20. Insulating blocks 23 secured between the winding overhangs by varnished cord 24, may also be used. The same winding arrangement may be applied to the rotor.
