Abstract

848,037. Crimping yarns. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. April 15, 1959 [April 16, 1958] No. 12044/58. Class 120(3). A process for producing bulked yarns comprises firstly treating a continuous multifilament yarn of a thermoplastic material so as to increase its bulk but not its extensibility by relative displacement of some at least, of the initially parallel filaments, and secondly crimping said first treated yarn so as to impart thereto a controlled amount of stretch. The first treatment comprises passing a yarn (which may be nylon) through an air jet to form random loops in the yarn, and passing said treated yarn continuously without any intermediate winding process to the second treatment where a controlled amount of stretch is imparted thereto by crimping either by false twisting, or passing the yarn through a heated stuffer box, or by passing the yarn over a sharp edge whilst yarn is in a heated condition.
