Abstract

846,150. Magnetic filters. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Oct. 18, 1957 [Oct. 22, 1956], No. 32605/57. Class 117 [Also in Group I] A magnetic filter for treating fluids comprises a permanent magnet 18 having pole pieces 2, 3 and surrounded by a cage member consisting of rods 4 supporting soft iron rings 5. The cage member is itself surrounded by a cylinder 6 provided with longitudinal slots 7 and is located in a slot 15 formed in a base plate 11; the slots 7 may be covered with gauze or sintered material to provide a mechanical filter. A cover 14 enables the filter members to be removed for cleaning. Fluid to be treated enters the filter via an inlet 8 and, after circulating in a helical path in the vicinity of the cage, passes through holes 9, or between the cylinder 6 and the cage, before flowing through an outlet 10. In a modification, the slotted cylinder is located between the magnet and the cage, Fig. 3 (not shown).
