Abstract
845,574. Tubular heat exchangers. SCHNELLER, J., and POKORNY, B. April 12, 1957 [April 20, 1956], No. 12051/57. Class 64(3) A heat exchanger comprises a tube 1 having internal and external fins 2, 3 formed thereon, one heat exchanging fluid e.g. hot gases flowing through the tube and another fluid such as air flowing over the tube through channels defined by the fins 3 and a surrounding jacket 4, a radiation element 5 extending through the tube and having radial fins which extend into the spaces 8 between the tube fins 2. In the form shown the flow channels for the external fluid each have substantially the same cross-sectional area, those channels in the vicinity of the fins 2 being deeper and narrower than the other channels. The casing 4 may be made of steel having an aluminium coated surface. The tube 1 extends beyond the casing 4 to a tube plate 7 as shown in Fig. 1 and in this region the tube section gradually merges into an annulus. A ceramic ring 6 is provided at the hot gas entry end of the tube.
