830,859. Packaging. ALPURA A.G. Feb. 1958 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 4436/58. Class 94(1). A web of packaging material sterilised on one side, has that side maintained free from contamination by projecting on to it a stream of sterile gas or vapour. In one embodiment, Figs. 1, 2 (not shown), the web runs above a flat plate and beneath a flattened tube, the lower surface of the latter being perforated to allow air sterilised by filtering to blow on to the web. In another embodiment in which a web is formed into a tube, filled with milk &c. and sealed in known manner by heaters carried on chains to form tetrahedron shaped packages, part 21 of the tube former is hollow and perforated at 25 so that the sterilising medium supplied through a pipe 26 may impinge on the web during the whole of the tube forming process.
