Abstract

The preparation of stable suspensions as of particle size of 0.5-5 microns of polymers or copolymers in water-permeable colloids (as distinct from emulsifiers) for use in adding to photographic layers for matting purposes include, in examples: (1) polyacrylonitrile, (2) polymethyl methacrylate, (3) a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and vinyl acetate, all in polyvinyl alcohol as protective colloid; and in Example 4 polyacrylonitrile in polyvinyl alcohol together with methyl cellulose. The monomers for other polymers and copolymers, and other colloids including gelatine, are referred to also.
