837,153. Sine bars. BERTHET, R. Dec. 19, 1957 [July 31, 1957], No. 39449/57. Class 97(3) A sine bar has a stand with a plane base upon which is hinged on a pin parallel to the base a member having two reference surfaces forming a dihedral angle of 45 degrees, the edge of which is parallel to the pin and a fixed roller secured on the member opposite a plane face on a surface of the stand such that slip gauges of thicknesses corresponding to the angle of desired inclination may be placed between the plane face and the roller, one of the reference surfaces being used in the range 0-45 degrees, and the other for the range 45-90 degrees. As shown, a stand 1 is hinged at 3 to a member 4 having reference surfaces 4a, 4b inclined at 45 degrees to one another. Slip gauges 14 of thicknesses depending upon the angle required are introduceable between a rest surface 1b of the base 1 and a cylindrical member 9 screwed at 11 to the member 4. The angle between the parts may be fixed by means of a screw 7 in the member 4 being tightened against the sides of a slot fast with the base 1. A clearance exists between the roller 9 and the rest surface 1b when the base 9 and the reference surface 4a are parallel so that relatively thick slip gauges may be employed even for small angles. The base may be magnetic for adherence to ferromagnetic surfaces
