Abstract

<FORM:0836340/IV (a)/1> Polyacrylonitrile yarns, or acrylonitrile copolymer yarns with at least 85% of polyacrylonitrile, are heated by a rotating roller held at 100-200 DEG C. and, before being drawn off said roller, are so stretched that the point of stretch is located on the roller, and can change its position thereon, after which the stretched yarn is guided over a slightly curved plate heated to a temperature within 50 DEG C. (either way) of the roller temperature. Preferably the roller temperature is 130-180 DEG C. As shown, a polyacrylonitrile yarn 1 is passed to a heated rotating roller 2, having an associated roller pin 3, and is wound round the roller several times. After leaving the roller, the yarn travels over a heated plate 4, which may be pivotally arranged, and then passes without slip about a second driven roller 6 rotating at a peripheral speed 4-10 times that of roller 2. The stretched yarn is collected via displacement guide 8 on a bobbin 7. Yarn treated in this way has a highly-uniform denier and fabrics made therefrom have uniform dyeing characteristics.
