Abstract
An aqueous multivitamin solution containing 0.5-25 mcg. of Vitamin B12 per ml., at least one other vitamin normally incompatible with Vitamin B12, and as a stabilizer, an iron compound in an amount sufficient to provide 15-2500 mcg. calculated as atomic iron per ml. of solution. Specified vitamins are Vitamin A, B1, B2, B6, C and E, niacinamide, and pantothenol. Specified iron compounds are iron peptonate, ferric ammonium citrate, ferric chloride, ferrous gluconate, ferric glycerophosphate, ferrous sulphate, ferric sulphate, ferric oxide, and ferrous and ferric complexes of ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid and its salts. The solution may incorporate a complexing or sequestering agent such as ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid, ethylenediamine beta-ethanol triacetic acid, d-saccharic acid, pyrophosphoric acid, hexametaphosphoric acid, tripolyphosphoric acid, lactobionic acid, tartaric acid, citric acid, dextran, algin, cyanides or ferro- or ferricyanides. Other compounds which may be present are choline chloride, glycerol, propylene glycol, polysorbate 80, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate, butyl parahydroxybenzoate, sodium benzoate, benzyl alcohol, sodium citrate, citric acid, methyl para-hydroxybenzoic acid, gentisic acid ethanolamide, carboxymethylcellulose, inositol, saccharin, sugar and oil of lemon.
