Abstract
1338071 Effervescent haematinic compositions V LASO-MARTINEZ 25 Nov 1970 [28 Aug 1969] 42887/69 Heading A5B An effervescent composition, e.g. in the form of granules or a tablet, comprises a non-toxic iron salt and an effervescent, CO 2 -producing couple the acid component of which is at least partly coated with a water-soluble material, e.g. a salt of the acid, which is adapted to render the acid stable to the presence of the alkali component in the dry state. Suitable iron salts are ferric glycerophosphate or pyrophosphate, ferric sodium edetate, ferrous sulphate, fumarate, succinate, tartarate, gluconate or ascorbate and complexes thereof with amino acids. The couple suitably comprises citric, fumaric, malic, succinic, tactaric or phthalic acid and an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal carbonate or bicarbonate. An antioxidant (such as ascorbic acid) and conventional excipients may also be present. The preparation of acid components consisting of tartaric acid partly coated with sodium tartrate and ctiric acid partly coated with sodium citrate is described.
