Fingers 4 are provided at each selvedge edge of fabric knitted on a straight-bar machine, and hold the yarn away from the sinkers after the yarn carrier 1 has passed the selvedge edge needle 2. Each finger 4 is mounted on a boss 7, slidingly mounted on rod 8, and fashioning screw 14 alters the position of finger 4 to alter the width of the work. Fingers associated with the knitting of a V-neck may be mounted on their boss so that they can be moved into an inoperative position when knitting is taking place across the full width of the fabric.
