Abstract
827,737. Hay-making. VAN DER LELY, N. V., C. April 19, 1956 [April 28, 1955], No. 12022/56. Class 6(3). An implement for laterally displacing crop lying on the ground comprises a frame supporting at least two rake wheels whose axes of rotation are parallel, the frame being connected to the power lift linkage of a tractor by a coupling device which allows the frame to be displaced relative to said coupling device about an axis which is horizontal and perpendicular to the axes of rotation of the rake wheels. A frame comprising members 10, 13 and 14 (see Fig. 3) is attached to the lift arms 3 and 5 of the power lift linkage of a tractor by means of bolts 11 and 12 and supports a further frame 18 which can pivot about bolts 19 and 20. The frame 18 comprises a bracket which is rotatable about the pin 23, the said bracket having fixed thereto a sleeve 25 which rotatably houses the forwardly extending shaft 26 of the frame carrying the rake wheels. Thus the shaft 26 and the beam 29 which carries the rake wheels can pivot about the pin 23 in order to counteract any irregularities of the ground, this latter movement being controlled by the spring 65 and being prevented when desired by inserting a pin 68 mounted in a side member of the frame 18 into any one of a series of holes in an arcuate strip 69 fixed on the sleeve 25. Since the frame 18 can pivot about the bolts 19 and 20, the direction of the shaft 26 relative to the direction of travel of the implement may be varied, and the shaft may be locked at the desired angle to this direction by means of a pin to passing through an arm fixed to the frame 18 and selectively engaging holes in an arcuate strip 62 fixed to the bracket 10. The forward end of the shaft 26 is hollow and is formed with two slots 52 and 53, and with a hole 54 (see Fig. 5), either of which may be engaged by a spring-urged pin 57 passing through a hole in the sleeve 25. By withdrawing the pin 57 from the slot 52, rotating the beam through 180 degrees and reinserting the pin in the slot 53, the implement may be converted from a side delivery rake to a tedder, and in either of these two positions the beam 29 carrying the rake wheels can pivot to a limited extent about the axis of the shaft 26 by virtue of the fact that the pin 57 will have limited play in either of the slots 52 or 53. By engaging the pin 57 in the hole 54, the beam 29 will be inclined to the horizontal and its overall width can thereby be reduced for transport purposes. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 6, the sleeve 26 is rigidly secured to the frame 18, and in order to allow the beam 29 to move up or down on meeting uneven ground, the shaft 26 is divided into two parts pivotally jointed together by means of brackets mounted on a pin 23A, springs 73 and 74 acting so as to urge the two parts of the shaft into alignment. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 793,434.
