[Also in Group XXXVII] A tape dispenser of the kind described in Specification 643,731 in which delivery of tape is controlled by an electric timing device, has means to prevent initiation of a further feeding cycle until a cycle in progress is completed. As in the earlier Specification a series of keys may be provided corresponding to various lengths of tape and the depression of each key initiates the tape feed and applies current via a resistance peculiar to the key, to a condenser, the full charging of the condenser firing a gas discharge tube, in this case a thyratron. Firing of the tube causes cessation of feed and operation of a cutter solenoid. The keys (see Group XXXVII) initiating feeding in the present Specification have each a controlling solenoid so that when they are depressed they remain so until released by the solenoid. Each key closes successively piled contacts for initiating the feed and timing operations and for energising a protecting solenoid. The latter remains energised during the feed cycle and maintains open contacts which prevent the initiation of another cycle by the pressing of a further key until the end of the first cycle de-energises the solenoid. A series of keys 44 may be arranged in a casing separate from the dispenser and the lengths they represent may all be augmented by a given fixed amount by throwing in an additional resistance by operating a switch 182. Alternatively, one or two keys only and each associated with an adjustable resistance and dial and pointer may be provided to deliver one or two lengths only. An additional resistance may be added as before, Figs. 11-16 (not shown).
