Class 68(2) A pile driver having a hammer lead is characterized in that means are provided to position the foot of the hammer lead accurately and to adjust the inclination of the lead to the vertical. The apparatus comprises a tracked chassis 1 (Fig. 1) on which is mounted a rotatable cab 2. A radius frame 4 is pivoted 3 at the front of the cab and can be raised and lowered by a cable passing over the pulleys 16 (Fig. 5).' The free ends of the frame form a fork having slots 10 within which slide pivot pins supporting a cross-shaped member 7. This member is also pivoted to the hammer lead 6 by pins 11 disposed at right angles to the sliding pins and the whole assembly can be moved parallel to the longitudinal axis of the frame by a power-cylinder 12. The upper end of the hammer guide is controlled by a pair of telescopic struts 23 which are each connected through a universal joint to one of a pair of posts 25 which are pivoted at 26 to the cab and locked by stays 127. The length of the struts can be varied independently, manually or by power means. to adjust the inclination of the hammer lead. The upper end of each strut is connected by a universal joint to a bracket (Fig. 7) which can slide along guides 30 attached to the hammer lead 6, but is normally locked in a fixed position by a spring urged plunger 31. A bell crank lever 34 and arm 33 are provided for unlocking the bracket from ground level. The hammer lead is made in two sections, for travelling the upper section is detached and the remaining section lowered as shown in Fig. 9.
