826,169. Incandescent gas fires. CANNON INDUSTRIES Ltd., and OATLEY, G. A. Jan. 7, 1958 [Jan 8, 1957], No. 688/57. Class 126 The gas supply to at least part of the burners of a gas fire is controlled by a thermostatic valve having its heat sensitive element positioned where it receives little heat from the fire and lies in the path of air drawn from the room through a vent formed by a blanking-off means to allow air to reach the chimney. The radiants of a gas fire are heated by two parts of a gas burner, a middle part 7 being supplied with gas directly from a manually-controlled tap 9 and the outer parts 8 being supplied from the tap 9 through a tube 10 and a thermostatic valve 11. The body 4 of the fire has an opening 20 at each side through which air passes to the chimney over the heat-sensitive element 13 of the thermostat. The element 13 is mounted on brackets 24 secured to the fireplace blanking sheet 18, which is bent forwardly at the bottom to form the front wall 22 of the air vent. A by-pass may be provided in the thermostatically-controlled valve to prevent the fire being completely extinguished.
