Abstract
826,034. Centrifugal strainer separators. ESCHER WYSS A. G. July 12, 1956 [July 12, 1955], No. 21579 /56. Class 46. [Also in Group XXXVII] A continuously-fed push-type centrifuge having a rotary straining drum 2 and a rotary distributing funnel 3 driven by an electric motor 6 through a belt drive 5 is fed with material from a container 8 through a pipe 10. A throttle valve 11 controls the amount of material supplied and is adjusted by a second motor 15, which is actuated in accordance with the power input to the motor 6, and which drives a screw 16 engaging a nut 17 at the end of a lever 14 to which the valve 11 is connected. The second motor 15 is fed from the mains 18 by leads 19 and 24 the direction of rotation of the motor depending upon the connection of lead 24 with a conductor 23 or 25 through a contact arm 20. The contact arm 20 is attached to a beam 26 whose position is influenced by two electromagnets 27, 28. The electromagnet 27 is fed by current from one of the conductors 7 leading to the motor 6 while the electromagnet 28 is fed from the mains 18. In operation if the feed of material to the centrifuge increases, the power input to the motor 6 also increases and thus the current to the electromagnet 27 increases causing the beam 26 to turn clockwise until the arm 20 connects the lead 24 and conductor 23 and the motor 15 rotates to move the throttle valve 11 to decrease the supply of material to the centrifuge until the power input to the motor 6 decreases to its predetermined value when the arm 20 resumes its neutral position. If the supply to the centrifuge decreases the arm 26 turns in an anticlockwise direction and the motor 15 rotates in the opposite direction to move the valve 11 to increase the supply of material. A rheostat 30 is provided to control the current to electromagnet 28 which determines the steady rate of flow of material to the centrifuge.
