Abstract
824,062. Moulding belts. UNITED STATES RUBBER CO. Aug. 19, 1957 [Nov. 28, 1956], No. 26061/57. Class 87(2). A longitudinal section of the belt is placed in a cavity 26, of transverse configuration cor. responding to that of the finished belt, extending inwardly from the surface of a mould plate 25 carried by one platen of a press, the other platen 18 of which is movable toward and away from the first, and a resilient, deformable, compressible blanket member 42, (e.g. of butyl rubber), is interposed between the second platen and the mould plate. A preferred form of blanket member has a first surface 43 which is smooth and uninterrupted and a second surface 44 parallel to the first which is provided with intersecting grooves 45, 46 forming a plurality of lands 47. When the blanket member 42 is placed under pressure by the platens the lands 47 are deformed independently of each other thus enabling the member 42 to be reduced in thickness while retaining its original length and width and there is no tendency for the belt materials to flow towards the open ends of the mould cavity.
