Abstract
813,750. Feeding articles. SCHWEITER Ltd. June 24, 1957 [March 23, 1956], No. 9079/56. Class 117 [Also in Group XVII] A device for packing elongated articles 4 one by one in a box 8 having a slot 9 in its base comprises a plunger 3 which thrusts each article through a slot 7 in a platform 5 and through the slot 9 into the box. The plunger receives articles from a hopper 13, the entrance to which is controlled by a weighted pivoted flap 21. The flap 21 will pivot clear of the entrance only when an article is positioned correctly on it. The platform 5 may be pivoted as at 6 so that it will rise to avoid damage if more than one article is thrust up by the plunger. Alternatively, the platform may be spring mounted and/or the plunger may have a resilient head. The plunger is reciprocated by a motor 31 and eccentric drive means 33, 34. The box has resilient flaps 10 adjacent the slot which are displaced by the entering articles. The slot 9 is so positioned that an article lying askew in the box will obstruct it.
