Abstract
811,602. Brazing; making labyrinth packing elements. HEARD, W. L. Dec. 14, 1956 [Jan. 3, 1956], No. 38233/56. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXVI] The flange of a pressed or stamped labyrinth packing element for use between a shaft and bore is divided into a number of resilient fingers 12 which resiliently engage either the shaft or bore and thereby retain the element in position while it is brazed in situ. The undulated form of the fingers shown in Fig. 1, provides reservoirs for the brazing metal, the pockets so formed being packed with flux and powdered brazing metal before the seal elements are inserted into the bore of the housing. Alternative forms of fingers are shown at 12b, Fig. 6, and 12d, Fig. 10.
