In a machine for pressing fastening hooks 23A from a comb bar 17 into a belt 25 by means of a jaw unit, Fig. 1 (not shown), movable along the bar 17, as described in Specification 810,933, the belt end is held against the slotted face of the bar 17 by a small clamp 29 attached to the bar 17 and comprising a face 32, Fig. 4, against which the belt 25 is held by a screw 33. In use the belt 25 is clamped and additionally held manually against the bar 17 until the first fastener D has been clinched, whereafter this fastener and the clamp combine to hold the belt in position until all the fasteners in the comb bar have been clinched. If the belt width is greater than the comb bar length the bar and clamp are then re-positioned on the belt to allow further hooks to be inserted. The clamp shown is secured to the bar 17 by the hook-retaining rod 24 which is passed through holes in a pair of projections on the clamp after it has been adjustably positioned along the bar, the projections entering two of the hookslots in the bar, or entering a single wide slot provided at one end of the bar.
