[Also in Group XXXVI] Hard ferrous alloy e.g. alloy steel ball and roller bearing parts are activated by abrading, e.g. sand-blasting, and while still active are electroplated with a lubricating metal, e.g. silver. The electroplating may be effected in two stages, first from a strike bath to seal the active surface and then from a normal plating bath to build up the lubricating layer.
