Abstract
819,434. Hydrogen peroxide purification. LAPORTE CHEMICALS Ltd. Aug. 29, 1957 [Sept. 19, 1956 ; Feb. 6, 1957], Nos. 28669/56 and 4101/57. Class 1 (2). Hydrogen peroxide of any strength can be purified at room temperature by contacting it, either in a batch or continuous manner, with a mixture of anion- and cation-exchange resins, the anion-exchange resin being in the hydroxyl or carbonate form, and the cationexchange resin being in the hydrogen form, while the ratio of anion-exchange sites to cationexchange sites is not greater than 1.5 : 1 and generally lies within the limits of 1 : 1 and 1 : 10. If the purification is a continuous process the rate of flow of hydrogen peroxide through the mixture is such as to prevent localized decomposition, while if a batch process is worked the mixture is preferably agitated until the anion-exchanger is exhausted and then the hydrogen peroxide is separated from the resinous mixture.
