819,303. Gas meters. PARKINSON COWAN Ltd., [formerly PARKINSON & COWAN Ltd.], Aug. 24, 1956 [Sept. 8, 1955], No. 25758/55. Class 54. In a dry gas meter casing made in two portions 10, 12 and having a partition 16 to support the meter mechanism, a resilient ring 22 fitted in a groove 20 in the flange 18 of the partition is deformed against the flared open ends of the two portions 10, 12 to seal the two compartments of the casing from each other and from the exterior. The two portions may be held sufficiently close together to deform the sealing ring by means of bolts through the lips 14 or by channel-section clips engaging the lips. The lips are formed to hook-section only along the straight sides of the two portions and clips 24, 25 and 26 curved at one end and having wire loops forming a spigot can be slid in turn over the lips and the securing means completed by an unspigoted clip 28. The clip 28 can be engaged by spigots 34 on the index bezel 32 so as to form a locking member that cannot be removed without first breaking the seal in a holder 36 in order to remove the bezel. Alternatively, the lips may be formed to hook-section only along two opposite sides and two clips of U-section in plan can then be fitted; if necessary, the abutting ends of the clips opposite the ends engaged by the spigots on the bezel may be scarf-jointed with a screw between the overlapped ends.
