Abstract
818,030. Cable terminals. MORANE, R. Sept. 3, 1957 [Sept. 6, 1956], No. 27707/57. Class 38 (1). A cable terminal 1 for attachment to the terminal post 5 of a battery comprises a reinforcing rib 2, and a shank 3 adapted to receive the end of cable 4. A transverse slot 7 is inclined relatively to the longitudinal axis X, Xl of the orifice of the terminal 1. Lugs 8, 9 are provided on opposite sides of the slot 7, and a clamping- screw enables the two lugs to be approached towards each other for locking the terminal 1 on to the post. A nut may be incorporated in the lug 9 for receiving the clamping-screw, or this lug may be tapped to receive the screw directly. A fibre sheath 14 and a screen 17 protect the clamping means against acid fumes, the upper end of the clamping-screw being enclosed by a knob 18 which bears against the lug 8. The longitudinal axis Y, Y<SP>1</SP> of the clamping-screw is inclined at such an angle with regard to the axis X, Xl, that the terminal can be fitted and removed readily, and shortcircuiting of the battery is avoided during these operations. The clamping means may be made of plastics material which is resistant to acid vapour.
