[Also in Group X] An edge protected fibre board, or a panel composed of a number of boards, includes an elongated strip 1 covering an edge surface 2 of the board 3, Fig. 1, a central longitudinal web 4 extending at right angles therefrom in a slot formed in the edge of the board, and at least one longitudinal ridge 5 extending laterally from the web. The edge protector may be generally of T-shape (Figs. 1 and 3) or E-shape (Fig. 6). A ridge 5 extends from one side of the central web 4 (Figs. 1 and 3) or from both sides (Fig. 6). The inner surfaces of strip 1, Fig. 1, may be inclined towards the outer edges, the edge 2 of board 3 being similarly shaped so that strip 1 will restrain the edge sections from spreading apart. In the Fig. 3 construction, the protector is stamped out of flat metal, and provides a groove 7 for use in attaching an extension board. In the Fig. 6 construction the outer webs 8 are provided with inwardly turned ridges 9 seating in grooves in the board, and further ridges 10 provide additional gripping action. The edge protector is applied to a board by endwise insertion into a pre-cut slot, in the edge of the board, widened to accommodate the anchoring ridges 5. The protectors may be made of metal or moulded synthetic material.
