Abstract

815,579. Electromechanical filters. COLLINS RADIO CO. Sept. 13, 1956 [Dec. 14, 1955], No. 28046/56. Class 40 (8). An electromechanical filter comprises a series of vibrating discs, a magnetostrictive driving member being coupled to one of the discs and a number of magnetostrictive driven members being coupled to other discs. The mechanical vibrating system comprises two inactive supporting discs 39, 40 and a series of active discs 45, 38, 49, 47 attached to each other and to the inactive discs by rods 41 welded to their peripheries. The inactive discs 39, 40 are shaped to accommodate the ends of brass tubes 22, 23, 24 which respectively house the input coil (not shown) and two output coils 25, 26. The discs are welded to the. tubes. Associated with the coils are magnetostrictive input and output rods 44, 48, 46 attached respectively to the active discs 45, 49, 47. The input and output coils are polarized by permanent magnets 36, 37. The filter may be used to provide two outputs having a desired phase difference. Specifications 722,645 and 815,580, [Group XL (c)], are referred to.
