Class 106(5) Measured quantities of liquefied gas, such as chlorine or ammonia, are dispensed by the oscillation of a partition 16, 17 from one side to the other of a chamber 12 under pressure of the liquid, the supply of liquid being controlled by a rotary or reciprocating reversing valve 13 and the liquid being stored above its critical pressure in a container 10 mounted at a sufficient height above the chamber 12 to give a static pressure, head in excess of the pressure drop. required to move the partition.The partition may comprise a. pair of flexible diaphragms 16, 17 with a liquid space between them and to vary the amount of liquefied gas delivered at each stroke of the diaphragm the amount of liquid in the space may be increased or decreased by means of a screwed plunger 21 and loose seal 23 in a reservoir 20 for the liquid. The reversing valve 13 may be automatically controlled by means such as a timer 30, or an instrument responsive to the demands of a process. A pressure-reducing valve 11 is fitted on the outlet side of the valve so that the pressure differential across the system may be varied, thus varying the speed of operation of the partition and allowing the liquefied gas to be delivered in the liquid or gaseous phase.
