Abstract
814,856. Broaching. STEWARTS & LLOYDS Ltd. May 31, 1957 [June 13, 1956], No. 17358/57. Class 83 (3). A tool for trimming the welding-bead 13 from the inside of a tube 20 comprises a body 15 having means for urging a cutter 25 against the bead, and mechanical means for clamping the cutter in its support. The cut-away bead 13<SP>1</SP> passes through the tool body and is carried with the tube as it is traversed over the tool. The body is supported by bead-engaging rollers 30, rollers 35 on an adjustable lever arm 36, and rollers 55 on adjustable spring-urged pivoted arms 60. The tungsten-carbide tool 25 has a curved cutting edge and a dished front face. Its side edges rest against shoulders on the body, and its bottom face rests on a shoulder on a block 80 which is adjustable for depth-of-cut by a screw 17, and it is clamped by a screw 96. In a modification, the tool and block 80 are clamped by a wedge 100, Fig. 8.
