Abstract

803,646. Winding yarn. MASCHINENFABRIK SCHWEITER A. G. April 6,1955 [April 8, 1954; March 9, 1955], No. 10032/55. Class 120(2) An automatic weft pirn winding machine having a rotatable catch to transfer yarn from a finished pirn to an empty one is characterized in that the rotating catch hook is driven by the pirn driver and forms a loop of yarn which is wound on to the pirn, the yarn being broken between the ejected pirn and the new pirn and the broken yarn end also being wound in with the loop of yarn. In the modification of Figs. 1 and 2, yarn F from the guide 23 extends to the doffer pirn S touching the side of the new pirn 2. A cam 6, through a rod 3, moves a housing 13 to the left so that a wheel 20 carried thereby engages the periphery of the pirn driver 1 and is driven thereby to rotate a gear 18 which drives an inner ball race 16 furnished with gear teeth 17. On the edge of the race 16 is a catch hook 22 which takes up the yarn F and, in its rotation about the pirn 2, forms a loop about it. After a number of revolutions of the pirn 2, the wound-on loop of yarn, in tending to unwind yarn from the doffer pirn S, breaks the yarn F. Or, in the case of strong yarns, as the rod 3 advances the pirn S may be gripped by a spring-biased friction head 46, 47 (not shown) as it lies in the receiver 24, so that its unwinding movement is prevented, and the yarn F positively broken. In a further modification, Figs. 18 and 19, the spindle 63 drives the pirn 70a and is furnished with a rubber ring 63b. A camadvanced bushing 78 brings an inner bush 76 to the right, Figs. 18, 19, until the end portion 76b thereof engages the driven rubber ring 63b. The hook 76a on the bush 76 is thus driven to take-up and wind a loop of the yarn F on the pirn 70a. Breakage of the yarn F1 extending to the doffed pirn is effected and wound-in as in the previous embodiment.
