Abstract

803,628. Gas-blast switches. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA A.B. Sept. 26, 1956 [Oct. 5, 1955], No. 29350/56. Class 38 (5). An air-blast circuit-breaker has contacts 10, 12 supported by bushings 4, 5 in the walls of an air container 1 and the tubular moving contact 12 is mounted in. a sleeve 13 in the bushing 5 and is moved. by an air-operated piston 18 in a cylinder 20 carried above the insulator 5. To open the contacts a valve 24 is operated to connect the space above the piston 18 to atmosphere at 26, so that the pressure in the container 1 acts on the contact 12 moving it upwards until a valve disc 16 seats against a ring 28 on a housing 19, and shuts off passage of air, which during the opening of the contacts passes up the tube contact 12, through apertures 15 and housing 19 and exhausts through vents 30. To close the contacts the valve is operated to connect the space above piston 18 to the air pressure supply 25 and drive the piston 18 downward, the underside of the piston 18 being open to the atmosphere at 21. In a three-phase arrangement, the bushings may be attached to the curved surface of a cylindrical container in two rows opposite each other. Both contacts may be movable.
