Abstract
803,422. Centrifugal blowers. ECK, B. Jan. 26, 1955 [Jan. 27, 1954], No. 2362/55. Class 110 (1) In a radial-flow blower suitable for conveying gases having a high dust content, the blade angle is substantially the same at all points and greater than 38 degrees with respect to the periphery of the rotor, and a device for imparting a substantial whirl in an assisting direction is arranged on the input side of the rotor. The angle of the blades of the rotor 1, Fig. 1 of a blower with respect to the tangential direction is greater than the angle of friction (about 38-40 degrees) of the industrial dust contained in the air, to prevent adherence of the dust to the blades. Similarly, the curved entry part of the shroud 11 subtends, with respect to the blower axis, an angle greater than the angle of friction. For optimum efficiency, the ratio of the radius of curvature r of the shroud 11 to the inner diameter d1 of the rotor lies between 1/10 and 1/6; the ratio of the rotor width b1 to the inner diameter d1 lies between 1/3.6 and 1/2.8; and the ratio between the inner diameter d1 and the outer diameter d2 is greater than 0.55-0.6. Regulation can be provided by an adjustable plate 5 with, it may be, a simultaneous adjustment of guide blades. The guide blades may be twisted or resiliently deformed. Alternatively, the guide blades 6, Fig. 3, may be carried by an axially movable member 7. Compressed air may be returned from the volute to the suction passage by way of an annular channel 8, Fig. 4, having one or more flap valves 9, 10 which can be opened to direct the air tangentially into the suction passage, thereby imparting whirl to the incoming air.
