Abstract
1,005,139. Axial-flow blowers. T. HELMBOLD. Oct. 2, 1963 [Oct. 16, 1962], No. 38746/63. Addition to 992,266. Heading F1C. In an axial-flow blower with a rotor having a shroud ring 7 extending in both axial directions a substantial distance beyond the rotor blades, one end of an intake nozzle 5 extends into the shroud ring. Thus an annular gap 10 is formed which together with a gap 8 permits a vortex flow across the ring 7. Additionally, a vortex flow across the hub 11 is permitted by passages in the hub and a gap 12 formed between the hub and a stationary cap 3 carrying the rotor mounting and drive means. In multi-stage blowers the cap may project into the hub and air may be sucked away from one of the upstream stages. The vortices promote a diffuser action at the blower delivery. In an alternative embodiment (not shown), the mounting and drive means are arranged downstream of the rotor, and the rotor hub is closed at its upstream end by a hemispherical part, thus no vortext occurs at the hub. Further, the upstream end of the blower outer casing curves outwardly parallel to the mouth of the intake nozzle and provides a passage therebetween for a second vortex at the outer casing, between the blower delivery and the suction side of the nozzle.
