Abstract

Examples of adhesives for bonding layers of metal foil are (a) 50-50 mixture of an epoxy resin and a polyamide dissolved in methylethyl ketone, toluene or xylene. (b) Reaction product of an epoxy resin and an amine hardener with cross-linking agents such as polyamines including ethylenediamine or phenylenediamines. (c) Mixtures of polyamides and diamines. (d) A mixture in equal proportions of an epoxy resin with a long-chain polyamide such as the condensation product of dilinoleic acid and ethylenediamine. The mixture may include 10 per cent of low molecular weight hardeners such as ethylenediamine and modifiers such as elastomeric materials. Inert fillers such as calcium carbonate, aluminium oxide and aluminium powder, asbestos or glass fibres, resin-impregnated cloth, paper, &c. may be added. (e) A phenolic thermosetting resin adhesive comprises 100 parts of a phenolformaldehyde resin and 100 parts of a 10 per cent solids solution of a polyvinyl butyral resin or acrylonitrile rubber in methylethyl ketone. Modifiers such as phenolformaldehyde, soluble nylon or neoprene rubber can be added.
