Abstract

802,854. Planes; scrapers. ASHWORTH & CO., Ltd., T. Dec. 24, 1956, No. 39160/66. Class 61. A dual purpose cutting tool comprises a body member 10 and means for clamping a safety razor blade 27 or the like in at least two positions in one of which a cutting edge of the blade projects from the flat surface 14 of the body member so that the tool can be used as a plane, and in another position the cutting edge of the blade projects from an end of the body member so that the tool can be used as a scraper or spokeshave for planing rounded surfaces or edges. As shown in Fig. 3, the blade 27 is located between the rear wall 20 of a central recess 11 in the underside of the body and the central clamping member 11 which is provided with a locking screw 23. The end clamping member 12 may be located at either end of the body, the central stud 29 being adapted to pass through either of the holes 30, 31. Each member 11, 12 is provided with a rib to pass through the central slot in the blade and through one of three slots provided in the body. In a modification, Fig. 7, the clamping members 48, 52 engage with built-up sections 44, 45 on the body which sections carry projecting studs 46, 47. Slots 41, 42 are provided through which the blade can project. The blade may be clamped also at the other end of the body by means of the clamping member 48 and the screw 57 and nut 58.
