Abstract
A composition for use as a local anesthetic consists of a sterile solution e.g. in sterile water, which may also be isotonic with respect to blood, of a quaternary salt of formula: <FORM:0802023/VI/1> where X is any pharmacologically acceptable anion, e.g. halide or tartrate ion. Specified quaternary salts are 2-(2 : 4 : 6-trimethyl phenoxy)-1-methyl ethyl dimethyl isopropyl ammonium iodide and bromide. Specification 765,850, [Group IV (b)], is referred to.
