Abstract
808,616. Counting-apparatus. VEEDER ROOT Inc. Sept. 10, 1957 [Sept. 11, 1956], No. 28495/57. Class 106 (1). An electromagnetic pulse counter in which a pulse to be counted causes movement of an armature towards a solenoid is provided with a first return spring biasing the armature away from the solenoid during the complete path of return movement thereof and a second return spring biasing the armature away from the solenoid during only a part of the return movement. As shown, Figs. 1, 2, electric pulses to be counted energize a solenoid 20 which attracts against the action of a spring 42, an armature 27 pivoted at 19 and having a pair of arms 31, 32 on which are respectively mounted spring pawls 35, 36 alternately engageable with a ratchet wheel 37 rotatably mounted on the counter wheel shaft 13 and attached to a gear wheel 38, Fig. 1, which drives the lowest order counter wheel 12 via a pinion 39. The lowest order counter wheel is advanced by one halfdigit as the armature 27 moves towards the solenoid and by a further half-digit as the armature moves away. The armature arms 31, 32 bear lugs 47, 48 to prevent overrun of the ratchet wheel 37. A leaf spring 43 is mounted on the armature and has an end 45 which engages a fixed stop member 46 when the armature approaches the end of its movement towards the electromagnet thereby causing a more rapid return of the armature.
