Abstract
806,135. Centrifugal compressors. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. March 5, 1957 [March 9, 1956], No. 7259/57. Class 110 (1). In a multi-stage centrifugal compressor, the medium is conducted from each impeller to the impeller of the next stage through a number of casing passages which direct the medium into an axial direction opposite to the inflow direction of the impellers, and the passages are distributed evenly around the axis of the compressor in such manner that for two successive stages the passages are mutually displaced by a 2nth part of the casing periphery, where n is the number of passages per stage. In the compressor shown, the medium discharged by each impeller 2 passes through a diffuser 5 to three separate passages 6 containing guide blades 7 and then through three separate passages 8 in an axial direction opposite to the inflow direction of the impellers, finally passing by way of inlet guide blading 4 to the impeller of the next stage. Coolers 9 may be provided in the passages 8. The passages of successive stages are mutually displaced by one-sixth of the circumference of the casing.
