Abstract
805,205. Refractory compositions. CORHART REFRACTORIES CO. May 10, 1956 [May 17, 1955], No. 14621/56. Drawings to Specification. Class 22. A heat-cast refractory composed essentially of interlocked, elongated crystals of corundum and boddeleyite in a siliceous matrix comprises 20-50 per cent. zirconia, 25-63 per cent. alumina, 16-20 per cent. silica and 1-4-2-8 per cent. potassium and/or sodium oxides, the total of alkali metal oxides being 9-14 per cent. of the silica content. The refractory may contain one or more of titania, ferric oxide and alkaline earth metal oxides in proportions of up to 0-6 per cent., 0-6 per cent. and 1-0 per cent. respectively. Preferred sources of alumina and zirconia are Bayer alumina and zircon sand. Silica is provided by the zircon and, if necessary, by silica sand, or in combination with alumina as kaolin. Alkali metal oxides may be added as carbonates. The zirconia, alumina and silica together form at least 91 per cent. of the composition. Specifications 544,197, 623,174 and U.S.A.
