Abstract

788,957. Modifying metallic surfaces. PYRENE CO., Ltd. Sept. 28, 1956 [Oct. 7, 1955], No. 28655/55. Class 82(2) In the production of phosphate coatings on metal articles by spraying a solution on to the work, the sludge contained in the whole of the solution collected during the spraying is removed as a slush by passage through cyclones so as to leave a clear solution, and the slush is then filtered to recover the solution in it. The Figure shows a process in which spraying is carried out in a booth 2, sludge-containing solution collected by funnel 4 passing through pipe 6 to pump 10 which feeds it to header 12 supplying twenty hydrocyclones 14. Clear solution is removed from the cyclones by manifold system 16 and returned to reservoir tank 8 (from which the solution is pumped to the sprays) through pipe 18, while slush is removed by manifold system 20 and pumped through one further cyclone 24, the clear solution from which is returned to funnel 4 through pipe 26, to pass again through the cyclones, and the slush from which is passed to a travelling band filter 28 through pipe 30. The solution obtained from filter 28 is returned to reservoir 8 through pipe 32.
