Abstract
773,009. Casting-machines. PLASCO, Ltd. June 10, 1955 [Oct. 4, 1954], No. 16830/55. Class 83 (1). [Also in Groups XXVI and XXVIII] A die-casting machine, Fig. 1, comprises a gooseneck having a pump-chamber 25, a liner 26 embedded and anchored in the pumpchamber against displacement therefrom, and a piston 40 operating in said liner in the pressuredischarge of molten metal from the pumpchamber through a discharge nozzle 17 of the gooseneck, said line and said piston being composed of or faced with zirconium boride. The gooseneck-assembly is vertically adjustable by rack-and-pinion assembly 44, 45. In a modification, Fig. 2, the cylinder-liner comprises a body-portion 53 of metal, metal-alloy or ceramic-material encased in a jacket of sintered zirconium boride, and in a further modification the piston has a body-portion faced with zirconium boride. The nozzle 17 is also of zirconium boride, or an inexpensive alloy with its bore faced therewith. The gooseneck and the pot are composed of a ceramic, such as silicon carbide.
