Abstract
Beta-chlorostyrene is produced by the action of inorganic or organic acid on the corresponding chlorohydrin, which may be used in admixture with the styrene dichloride, for example as formed by the action of hypochlorous acid on styrene. In examples, 10 per cent sulphuric acid reacts with styrene chlorhydrin and a mixture of this with styrene dichloride as to 2 : 1; the latter is saponified with calcium carbonate to give the chlorohydrin which is re-cycled.
